If the loving God from the Bible is real, then why is there suffering in the world? Why do kids still get incurable diseases? Why do marriages still break? Why war? Why am I experiencing so much pain? These are very real and honest questions that are all welcome to be addressed.

What could help is to see ‘suffering’ and ‘God’ as two separate things. Because if God would not exist, then there would probably still be suffering in the world.

In fact, without God, suffering gets even worse! It serves no purpose. Christians believe God allows suffering to renew our characters. Because without suffering there is no space for growth. Your muscles gotta get sore, to make them grow!

So why doesn’t He just solve it with a snap of His finger? There are several reasons for that. One of the first reasons have to do with God wanting to bring out the best of us in this world. Just like a dad learning His kid to behave by not solving it the right away - that is the way God wants to teach us too.

Also we tend to believe our purpose on this earth is to have a great time together. But the goal of a christian is to look more like God day by day, and to show His characters to others. Suffering reminds us that we really need Him - and therefore it draws us closer to God. And the closer we live with God, the more we will look like Him.

This all might not explain why millions of people still die of hunger. This has something to do with free will. Tomorrow more about that.

Maybe you are going through a time of suffering. The most important thing to know is that God is with you. Always! Shall we pray together?

“God, thank You for today. It was quite some information and maybe I don’t understand it completely, but I know that You are also here in my suffering. Thank You that I may discuss my suffering and misunderstandings with You, and that I may be sure that in doing so, I get even closer to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
