Winter Warm-Up Sample

"As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognising him.” - Luke 24:15-16 (NIV)

In Luke 24, two disciples are walking on the road to Emmaus, deep in conversation about the events they’ve just witnessed: the crucifixion and the empty tomb. Shockingly, they don’t recognise Jesus, even when He walks right alongside them. It’s not until He breaks the bread that their eyes are opened, and they realise the One they’d been talking to was Jesus Himself.

I can relate to those disciples. There are times in my life when I’ve felt lost or confused, and I didn’t see Jesus working in my situation. I was caught up in my own thoughts, my own plans, and it took a moment of revelation to realise that Jesus had been walking with me all along.

Just like those disciples, we often miss God's presence because we’re looking for Him in big, dramatic ways. But sometimes, He’s right beside us in the simple, everyday moments. We just need to be open to seeing Him in the ordinary.

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to Your presence, especially in the ordinary moments of my day. Help me to see You walking beside me, guiding me even when I don’t notice. Give me the faith to recognize You in all circumstances. Amen.
